Events

The Bourne Lions had always been known for organising large fund raising events over the years, which have included,  Pantomimes, Charity cycle rides and Golf days.
As membership declined, these were harder  to organise and became a disappointment for the community and all concerned. The community is what we make it and everyone of us has a part to play.
With a rise in membership Bourne Lions have once again been able to organise more community events which have enabled us to help others and make our communities a better place for all.

Throughout the year Bourne Lions  not only organise large events, but  can be found supporting other local  community organisations at fayre's, fete's and festivals etc. throughout Bourne and the surrounding villages.

1940s Evening of Music and Dance

Union Flag Crossed wth the Stars and StripesSince the 70th Anniversary in 2015, which celebrated the end of the second world war, Bourne Lions have organised a 1940s evening of Music and Dance. This is now an annual event in the Lions calendar and has become very popular and perceived by many to be one of the best 1940s evenings in the area. Costumes of the era are desirable but not essential, but add to the nostalgic atmosphere as those attending are transported back in time to an age where the community spirit prevailed.
More information of this event can be found here

Fun Day

In early 2014 it was suggested that we organised a Family Fun Day, as the ethos of the Lions is to raise money locally, for local causes and give back to local people.

As we were novices at organising such an event, the day in July was a modest event, with a Junior football competition, Dog competition, a display arena, fun rides, craft and charity stalls, car boot stalls and refreshments. The Bourne Lions Mini Bus made an appearance. The event has proved popular and has once again been included in our annual calendar although the format has remained basically the same, new attractions and games have been added.

In 2019 this event was moved from July to September with a change of the main entertainment from re-enactment to music featuring local dance groups, bands and artists, proving extremely popular with the local community.

The Covid Pandemic during 2020 saw the cancellation of Fun Day together with other events that had been planned for the year. Following the lifting of restrictions, the event was proudly reinstated and continues to run yearly, remaining a firm favourite in the local community calendar.

Bourne Lions Family Funday 2026

Plans are already under way for this year's Fun Day which will be held on Saturday 6th September 2026. The venue will be at The Recreation Ground, Recreation Road, Bourne.

Bourne Lions Mini Bus

Bourne Lions little blue bus was built by founder members of Bourne Lions in 1978 and, regrettably, has been passed over to the Delaine Museum, where it can be seen in Summer months.

Santa's Sleigh

Santa's SleighEvery December since 1975, Santa has taken time out from his busy schedule at the North Pole to help raise funds for his helpers from Bourne Lions, who escort him and his sleigh, around the streets of Bourne and the surrounding villages.
Bringing joy and happiness to children and adults alike, whilst raising funds for worthwhile causes within the local community.

During the weeks leading up to Christmas, Santa’s Sleigh can be tracked each evening online, when he and his helpers will endeavour to cover all areas around Bourne and the surrounding villages.
Unfortunately due to time restrictions he is unable to visit all roads, or able to stop outside everyone’s house!  More information can be found here
