Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That's because we help where help is needed \u2013 in our own communities and around the world \u2013 with unmatched integrity and energy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our 46,000 clubs and 1.4+ million members make us the world's largest service club organization.
\nWe're also one of the most effective. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don\u2019t have enough to eat and with people we may never meet.<\/p>\n

\nEvery penny supports good causes
\nLions clubs help local communities in a number of ways with every penny collected in the British Isles \u2013 going direct to good causes Not one penny is spent on administration as Lions club running costs are funded by members. Just ask any Lions member how we make every penny count.<\/p>\n

Each Year 10% of all monies raised by Bourne Lions is sent to \u2018Lions Clubs International Fund\u2019 (L.C.I.F.) which is forwarded to Lions Clubs in those parts of the world where help is desperately needed, natural disasters etc. 90% of all monies raised goes to local good causes in our own community. Although a lot of the work goes unnoticed by the majority, Bourne Lions has over the last 40 years has raised thousands and thousands of pounds, helping to make our community a better place to live, an helping those less fortunate than ourselves.<\/p>\n

The Lions Symbol has been a symbol of Fidelity through the ages and among all nations, ancient and modern. It stands for loyalty to a friend, loyalty to a principal, loyalty to a duty, loyalty to a trust.<\/p>\n

The emblem consists of a gold letter \u201cL\u201d on a circular area. Bordering this is a circular \u00a0area with two Lion profiles facing away from the centre. The word \u201cLions\u201d appears at the top \u201cInternational\u201d at the bottom.<\/p>\n

The Lions face both past and future - showing both pride of heritage and confidence in the future.<\/p>\n

The Battle Against Blood Cancer<\/h5>\n

\nWith your support the Lions International Blood Research Appeal (LIBRA) currently aims to raise more than \u00a3200,000 for the Haematology Department at King\u2019s College Hospital in London.
\nThe funds raised through this major Lions project will ensure that the haematology team can develop several laboratories where they will go on to create new and improved treatments for patients with a variety of blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
\nHead of Haematology at King\u2019s, Professor Ghulam Mufti said: \u201cWe urgently require the funding as it will allow us to initiate new cell and gene therapy trials that would otherwise not be possible. We are so grateful for the ongoing support we receive from LIBRA, the latest campaign to raise \u00a3200,000 will make our research plans a reality.\u201d Successful treatments will benefit patients across the UK and overseas.<\/p>\n
